Position Description

Job Summary:

The Quality Systems Coordinator is responsible for ensuring that the company’s food safety and quality management systems meet SQF standards and maintain SQF certification. This role involves developing, implementing, and monitoring food safety plans and programs, conducting internal audits, and leading continuous improvement initiatives to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and SQF guidelines.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. SQF Program Management:
    • Develop, implement, and maintain the company’s SQF System in compliance with SQF Code requirements.
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for all SQF-related activities and communications.
    • Prepare and maintain the Food Safety Plan and Quality Plan, ensuring they are up-to-date and compliant with SQF standards.
    • Ensure that all employees understand and adhere to the SQF Code and related food safety and quality requirements.
  2. Internal Audits and Compliance:
    • Conduct regular internal audits of the SQF System to identify non-conformities and areas for improvement.
    • Prepare and coordinate external SQF audits, including responding to audit findings and ensuring timely corrective actions.
    • Monitor compliance with all food safety regulations, including FDA, USDA, and local health department requirements.
    • Oversee the management of the company’s food safety documentation and records.
  3. Continuous Improvement:
    • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in the food safety and quality systems.
    • Lead initiatives to enhance food safety practices, reduce risks, and improve product quality.
    • Stay updated on industry trends, regulatory changes, and best practices related to food safety and SQF standards.
  4. Training and Development:
    • Develop and deliver training programs to educate employees on food safety, SQF requirements, and proper food handling procedures.
    • Ensure that all staff are adequately trained in their roles within the SQF System.
    • Provide ongoing support and guidance to employees to foster a strong food safety culture.
  5. Crisis Management:
    • Manage the company’s food safety crisis management plan, including conducting mock recalls and ensuring readiness for potential food safety incidents.
    • Coordinate with relevant departments to address and resolve any food safety issues or emergencies.
  6. Supplier and Vendor Management:
    • Collaborate with suppliers and vendors to ensure that raw materials and ingredients meet SQF and company standards.
    • Conduct supplier audits and assessments as necessary to verify compliance with food safety and quality requirements.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Quality Assurance, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in food safety, quality assurance, or a related field.
  • Certified SQF Practitioner or ability to obtain certification within a specified timeframe.
  • Strong knowledge of SQF standards, HACCP principles, and food safety regulations.
  • Experience in conducting internal audits and managing SQF certification processes.
  • Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and food safety/quality management software.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in the food manufacturing or processing industry.
  • Additional certifications in food safety or quality management (e.g., HACCP, PCQI).

Working Conditions:

  • Regular visits to production areas required.
  • May require occasional travel for audits, training, or supplier evaluations.
  • Flexible hours may be necessary during audits or in response to food safety incidents.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work in a food manufacturing environment, including exposure to varying temperatures and noise levels.
  • Ability to stand or walk for extended periods during audits or inspections.
